About the Department of Horticulture Faculty

The faculty of the Department of Horticulture is a diverse group of more than 20 scientists doing research, teaching and outreach along a wide spectrum form highly applied field work to specialized biotechnological investigations.

Members work with a diversity of crops and plants, from fruits and vegetables, tobacco, and ornamental crops including floral, turf, woody and herbaceous plants, to model plant species such as Wisconsin Fast Plants and Arabidopsis thaliana. Our research and extension programs are recognized worldwide for their contributions to fundamental plant biology and applied horticultural production.

The January 12th, 2007 issue of the Chronicle of Higher Education ranked the UW Horticulture graduate program #1 in its discipline, based on research performance.

Using a new rating system called The Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index, it examines the number of book & journal articles published by each faculty member, as well as journal citations, awards, honors, and grants received.
